Think you’ve experienced a marriage from hell? Read this book and then come back to me. Ever since ‘The Ice Cream Girls,’ I’ve been binging on Dorothy Koomson’s books for the past two years. From the second this book downloaded into my kindle, I’d been glued to it.
I don’t want to give away spoilers, but aside from a very intense murder mystery chase, this book carries an underlying theme – people change.
It’s something we all understand but inevitably never want to face. You can know someone all your life, share all your precious memories with them, feel like there’s a connection beyond the universe… but ultimately…time and circumstance will change them – and you.
I’m not the same person I was six months ago, let alone three years or longer! So imagine how it must be for friends and couples who have shared so much together…only for it to all disintergrate into a pile of ash over the course of a lifetime.
It’s a sad, yet true fact of life. Some people change for the better, they realise they want different things from their lives and need time and space to figure it out. Sometimes we grow confused with our dreams and cause so much damage trying to get it and fix it, we end up destroying other people’s lives too.
Life’s a mess.
I really felt this message being driven home by Koomson.
Even though a perfect couple may seem perfect on the outside – inside – it’s a different story. After reading this book, I can safely say, I’m going to evaluate any relationship I have in the future!
